Australian Resuscitation Council: Advanced Life Support Courses

The Australian and New Zealand College of Emergency Nursing runs ALS courses in conjunction with our training partners Advanced Life Support Australia. Members receive a 10% discount on publicly bookable Advanced Life Support Australia courses.

The college also hosts member only ALS1 courses at discounted rates throughout the year to enable members to receive affordable education.

Which course is right for you?

ALS1

Advanced Life Support Level 1 courses are one day courses covering the fundamentals of management of the deteriorating patient, initial resuscitation and defibrillation. This course would be ideally suited to nurses who would be expected to be a member of a resuscitation team.

 

ALS2

Advanced Life Support Level 2 courses are a two day courses designed to develop advanced resuscitation knowledge for the experience professional. In addition to the skills learnt in ALS1, the ALS2 course expands on arrhythmia management, team leadership and tests both soft and hard skills. This course is ideal for the experienced nurses who are expected to take a leadership role in resuscitation.

Advanced Life Support Level 1

Internationally recognised ALS certification

This one-day course focuses on developing foundation skills, knowledge and confidence in managing medical emergencies including cardiac arrest.

8 hours CPD

  • 1-day duration commencing at 7:30am for an 8am start with a 4pm conclusion (approximately)
  • Full day catering provided
  • ARC ALS Certificate valid for 4 years
  • ARC-issued ALS Provider Wallet Card

Course content:

  • Recognition and management of a deteriorating patient;
  • Systematic patient assessment using the ABCDE approach;
  • The Australian Resuscitation Council ALS algorithm;
  • Airway skill station
  • Initial resuscitation and defibrillation skills station;
  • Cardiac arrest clinical simulation including teamwork and communication.

Advanced Life Support Level 2​

Internationally recognised ALS certification

This two-day course focuses on developing advanced skills and knowledge in managing cardiac arrest and other medical emergencies. This course covers advanced resuscitation skills and the development of emergency team leadership abilities. The course is designed for experienced emergency nurses

16 hours CPD

  • 2-day duration commencing at 7:30am for an 8am start with a 6pm conclusion (approximately)
  • Full day catering provided
  • ARC ALS Certificate valid for 4 years
  • ARC-issued ALS Provider Wallet Card

  • Post Resuscitation Care
  • Bradycardia and pacing workshop
  • Tachycardia and synonymised cardioversion workshop
  • Cardiac arrest clinical simulation including team leadership, teamwork and communication

F.A.Q.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. We will send you the Australian Resuscitation Council Advanced Life Support course manual prior to the course commencement for self-guided pre-reading. Course materials also include optional multiple-choice questions with answers and explanations supplied for self-assessment.

Catering is provided throughout the course. We can cater for a range of dietary requirements. Please advise of dietary requirements when enrolling for the course.
